Random Stars, a quintet of female musicians, is the first all-female band to hail from the United Arab Emirates.

The band is made up of Bushra Hassan Al Hashimi on rhythm guitar, Hamda Al Gaithi on lead guitar, Ayesha Salem Al Kaabi on bass, Almayasa Al Kaabi on keyboards, and Ayesha Abdullah Al Maskari on the drums.

The young girls are students at the Higher Colleges of Technology in Al Ain, and formed the band with the help of their English teacher, U.K. native Jackie Small.

“I decided to do a guitar club and there were a few people interested,” Small told The National. “I had in my mind a band so I got a drum kit and taught someone to play the drums, and I got a bass and taught them to play that.”

The band performs at college events and National Day celebrations, and has received positive feedback from the community and family members.

“My mother encourages us, they’re supporting us,” Al Hashimi told The National.
