Little Big Town members Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman joined forces with Ingrid Andress to cover Dixie Chick’s “Wide Open Spaces.” Their rendition was made for Cracker Barrel’s “Five Decades, One Voice” celebrating the franchise’s 50th anniversary and also women in country music. The project has also teamed up with female powerhouses Brandi Carlile, Trisha Yearwood, and more.
Karen Fairchild explains her hope for the campaign, “We can’t just keep having the conversation without change. I know there are a lot of people talking about it, which is good, and I know as women none of us are asking for a favor. We’re asking for a level playing field. We just want to be heard… If we don’t get heard on the radio, our voices are not familiar.” Her bandmate Kimberly Schlapman adds, “And women do want to hear women. That’s what the gatekeepers have totally put aside.”
CEO of Cracker Barrel Sandra B. Cochran will also be creating a playlist combining all songs from the “Five Decades, One Voice” initiative that will be played at every restaurant the month of September. For more information, check out the campaign’s official website.
