Singer and songwriter Karen Peris announced her new children’s album courtesy of Bella Union and Umbrella Day Music. A Song Is Way Above The Lawn contains ten beautifully arranged tracks and is scheduled for release on October 8, 2021. The music video for the single “Superhero” debuted last week and contains her own full-color illustrations. Written over a period of seven years, these songs make an especially melodic collection of beautifully rendered moments that will resonate with both children and adults.
The album has already received critical nods by several outlets including WXPN Philadelphia, Long Live Vinyl and Rolling Stone (France). NPR Music says, “Karen Peris nestles into the corners of beauty, articulating images and ideas just out of view”, and Telerama France praises Peris stating, “Anachronistic miracle, Karen Peris makes you realize the humble power of the human voice.”
Karen Peris is one half of the duo The Innocence Mission, and had this to say about her new solo album:
“I wanted to explain that I always hope an album could be for any age, and with this I had a particular added hope that a child could find something in it that felt companionable, but that musically, this album [A Song Is Way Above The Lawn] has a lot in common with our band albums and with my album called Violet, except all the songs on the new album have words and singing.”
