Echosmith Re-Capture Their Indie Spirit with Self-Titled Album

Echosmith is back in full creative force with their self-titled album embracing all that comes with the messiness, the struggles, and the beauty of life.

A declaration of sorts, the 12-track album represents Sydney, Noah and Graham Sierota’s fresh perspective and newly liberated approach as they lean into a sonic evolution and bare-it-all songwriting that came from an intense period of personal and professional growth. The result is a left-of-center pop kaleidoscope of cinematic alternative soundscapes, breezy pop hooks, and crystalline synths that embody the original indie spirit of the band.

Single “Sour” further illuminates this new chapter. Inspired by the challenges and commitment that Sydney found within her long-distance marriage, “Sour” features her silky vocals and a grandiose synth wave-inspired production by Noah. The album peels back the layers of who Echosmith really is at their core as young adults and as a family, exploring their marriages, doubts and anxieties, their protective sibling dynamic, their spiritual journey, and their evolving perspective on life. “Greedy” is a thought-provoking message that explores what God owes us, if anything at all, that balances delicate instrumentation with sparse production punctuated by twinkling piano. “Primadonna” is a sassy track featuring a lithely plucked acoustic guitar and “Shelter” is a shuffling bass-driven track dedicated to their youngest brother Graham. Sydney’s husband joined the band in the creative process for bubbly track “Perfect Light,” a sweet song about finding comfort in your person. The album also features previously released songs “Gelato,” “Hang Around,” and “Hindsight.”

“We gave ourselves the freedom to make music for the sake of making music, and it helped define what the new sound was going to be,” says front-woman Sydney Sierota.

“It took a while to write the songs and finish the production, but it was born out of primarily writing as just Echosmith. We’re already so close as siblings. We vent to one another, and we give each other advice. We just hopped on the phone and opened up.”

After starting their careers so young and absorbing the influences and pressures of the industry for more than 10 years, during which Echosmith achieved 1 billion streams, multiplatinum success, a ubiquitous hit song with “Cool Kids,” widespread critical acclaim, and countless sold out shows, the band began to tap into their innermost artistic vision and ask themselves what kind of music they truly wanted to make. Echosmith is their answer.

ABOUT ECHOSMITH:
Echosmith’s stardom skyrocketed as they came of age together as both a family and a band with a mission to spread love, positivity, and self-acceptance. They cemented themselves as an inescapable presence in music and pop culture with their triple-platinum hit “Cool Kids”and their double-platinum single “Bright,” as their full-length debut, Talking Dreams, went gold. Simultaneously, Sydney stood out as a positive cultural force, whether acting as a brand ambassador for Coach, designing a line for Hollister, or duetting on stage with Taylor Swift. They scored another hit with their bold, synth-driven single “Over My Head,” joined for King & Country on the powerful hit “God Only Knows” (Timbaland Remix) and released their acclaimed sophomore album Lonely Generation in 2020. Along the way, the trio has garnered over 1 billion streams, captivated crowds worldwide, toured with twenty one pilots, Pentatonix, and Owl City, collaborated with Steve Aoki, Zedd, for King & Country, Audien, Hunter Hayes, and Mat Kearney, earned major media praise, and performed on numerous national TV shows.
