The She Rocks Secret Sari Dress Collection is one of many taking part in the Secret Projects campaign. Secret Projects work with women in India, training them to become makers of products that are sold globally to prevent human trafficking and promote women’s empowerment.
A Secret Sari Dress is a clever wrap-around beach dress, made from a sari, which folds into a small and neat pocket. The beautiful saris in the She Rocks collection were inspired by a colour palette that was curated by singer-songwriter Heather Findlay, the co-leader of the Secret Sari Dress campaign. The campaign was launched on International Women’s Day with Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), Doro (Warlock) , Floor Jansen (Nightwish) & Lzzy Hale (Halestorm) leading the campaign to stop Human Trafficking. Gretchen Menn, Lisa S. Johnson, and Laura B. Whitmore have recently joined in the cause.
“I’ve decided to bring a beautiful project that I believe in into the light. Let’s lift our sisters Up and show the battles in our own country, but All women around the world. Introducing the Secret Sari Dress – Prevention Through Production”
~ Lzzy Hale, Halestorm
The She Rocks Secret Sari Dress Campaign drives sales of Secret Sari Dresses which are made by a group of dressmakers from West Bengal, India. Every one of these dressmakers have been involved in, or are vulnerable to, human trafficking. Through production of Secret Sari Dresses they can earn enough money each month to reduce their risks of being trafficked. In 2016 Secret Projects partnered with an international NGO that successfully supports young women who are survivors of human trafficking. These women are rescued from a life of sexual slavery in brothels, in some cases thousands of miles away from home.
For everyone 100 Secret Sari Dresses sold, five more makers are welcomed to join the Prevention Through Production Programme.
