Santigold sat down with Pitchfork to discuss her new album, 99¢ (due Jan. 22, 2016), and opened up about her feelings regarding the music streaming industry.
Agreeing with the common response of streaming being accessible, she muses, “as a songwriter, it’s really hard.” She believes that there should be better deals made between the streaming services, the record labels, and the artists themselves, to ensure that the musicians don’t continue getting the short end of the stick – “the artists aren’t making a lot of money from their music getting played, so we have to figure out other ways to do it and that’s the reality of the music business now.”
