What does self-care mean to you? Some of you may think of bubble baths, reading a good book, or taking time off of work. Others may relate to healthy eating or getting in some time at the gym!

All of these things are very beneficial and can increase your work productivity. But in this article I am going to be talking about a different form of self-care: looking after our mental health with the power of positivity!

Have you ever felt mega stressed working in the music industry? If you answered no, you probably aren’t a full-time artist or indie musician. The industry is ever-changing, has no recipe to success, and there is a large amount of money and dedication required in order to grow your career.

So with that said, let’s give ourselves some credit! It can be hard being a manager, booker, director, graphic designer, investor, social media manager, and musician all at once. (Oh and professional multi-tacker!)

How do we combat these feelings? We are told audiences respond to musicians who are fun and love what they do. But this can be problematic for us indie artists! How do you go about making friends at networking events, and performing a high energy show, when you’re taking on hours of shifts and worrying about paying for your upcoming album expenses?

There are without a doubt many challenges indie artists face. But it isn’t about the problems you have, it’s how you respond to your problems! These challenging are never going to go away, and understanding this will give you the right amount of motivation to push through!

I have been practicing the power of positivity. And let me tell you, my life has changed over night!

Studies show that the average human has 50,000 thoughts a day, and a whopping 70% to 80% of those are negative! After reading this, I decided to experiment. I started each day listening to self-affirmation videos via Youtube. Afterwards, I began watching Law Of Attraction videos. These inspired me to use both of these tactics in my own life!

Start each day telling yourself these things:

  • I am amazing just as I am
  • I am worthy of everything coming my way
  • I am a hard worker and will complete my goals
  • I am a positive and happy person to be around
  • I am excited for my future
  • I am going to have a great day

It may feel a little weird at first, but I promise you over a few days your outlook on your career and workload will change. You also begin attracting positivity into your work life and your relationships. It is amazing to see!

This week I encourage you to slowly start working on changing those 40,000 negative thoughts. You will feel more motivated to jump out of bed and begin working on your dream!

Good luck WiMNs!
