Longtime Prince And Jeff Beck Collaborator Rhonda Smith To Release A New Single

Rhonda Smith’s talent for experimenting and pushing the boundaries with the bass has led to a long career recording and touring with artists such as Prince and Jeff Beck. The pandemic allowed Smith time to write and reflect. Wanting to hear more fretless bass in contemporary music and finally ready to share with the world this broken love song about a perfect love gone wrong, Smith presents her new single “Won’t Come Back” available everywhere on November 12th.

“Won’t Come Back” will have you singing, grooving, and reminiscing about lost love. Longtime jazz/funk and funk/rock artist Smith says, “Life, Love, and the fretless bass inspired me to write this song. It’s an emotional subject and an emotional instrument.” Rhonda called on her longtime writing and production partner Atlanta based multi-instrumentalist and producer Joey “Papa J” Sommerville to help bring her vision into full focus. The pair enlisted the skills of world-renowned drummer Lil’John Roberts to add just the right organic rhythmic touch to the recording. The result is a futuristic soul classic powered by Rhonda’s angelic vocals and iconic fretless bass sound.

Smith has had an enviable career that has spanned over two decades. Her technical skills on the bass are unparalleled in the industry. Hailing from a musical lineage, Smith’s career took off in Canada after college working with artists such as Claude Dubois, Daniel Lavoie, Robert Charlebois, and Joanne Blouin and even winning a Juno Award. A chance meeting with Sheila E. would prove to be the push she needed for U.S. domination.

Smith’s determination, passion, and raw talent continue to propel her into the spotlight. She stands as an inspiration for many women in the music industry as a successful bassist. This sultry songstress is lyrically sophisticated with an emotional depth that is both incomparable and technically brilliant. Smith’s dedicated and passionate fans have patiently waited for Smith’s return to her solo career. “Won’t Come Back” is Smith’s return with a boom. You won’t want to miss it.

Catch the release of “Won’t Come Back” and the accompanying music video available on November 12th, 2021. For more information head to rhondasmith.com.
