Linda Ronstadt will be formally inducted into the class of 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, along with Peter Gabriel, KISS, Hall and Oates, Nirvana and Cat Stevens.

The news came as a surprise to Ronstadt, who told the Los Angeles Times that she’d never “given a second thought to” the possibility of being inducted.

Musicians that made the final ballot but did not make it to the induction are Yes, N.W.A, Chic, the Meters, Deep Purple, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, LL Cool J, the Replacements, Link Wray and the Zombies.

In her new musical memoir Simple Dreams, Ronstadt said she never aspired to the Hall of Fame, stating “I never thought of myself as a rock ‘n’ roll singer – I’ve thought of myself of a singer who sang rock ‘n’ roll, who sang this, who sang that.”
