This award may come as no surprise to any avid Alabama Shakes/Brittany Howard lover, but Billboard has officially crowned Howard as their 2015 Women in Music ‘Powerhouse’ artist, joining Lady Gaga (who was named Women of the Year) for one of the lists’ top honors.
Co-president of Billboard Janice Min says of Howard, “Brittany Howard is the true definition of a powerhouse, from her unique and crushing vocals, to her meteoric rise in the last four years.”
Alabama Shakes most recent debut, Sound & Color, debuted No. 1 on the Billboard charts, and played this past year at Coachella and headlined the Boston Calling Music Festival alongside Hozier. Oh, and not to mention she released a complete LP under the moniker Thunderbitch last month.
