Fifteen-year-old indie singer-songwriter Jamey Geston from Santa Barbara, Calif., was in for the surprise of her life when author Mary Amato asked her to perform music in representation of the main character in her new book, Get Happy.

Geston plays Minerva Watson, a teen who desperately wants a ukulele for her 16th birthday. What the aspiring songwriter gets instead is a shocking invitation from her long-lost father to reconnect.

Studio System News calls Amato’s Get Happy a “…dramatic teen romance—no special effects, just good old-fashioned teen angst.”

The book is due for release Oct. 28 on EgmontUSA publishing.
