On Tuesday, Jan. 11, Madonna made a heartfelt tribute to her friend and idol David Bowie in Houston, Texas during her Rebel Heart Tour. Before covering Bowie’s track, “Rebel Rebel,” to her fan. Before performing, she took the time to explain all that the music icon meant, and still means, to her.
“He was one of the geniuses in the music industry… he changed my life when I went to see him in Detroit. He showed me that it was ok to be different. And he’s the first ‘rebel heart’ that I laid eyes on.”
