The New York Times music writer Joe Nocera recently wrote a piece about jazz clarinet player Anat Cohen, whom he called a “revelation.”

Cohen, a 38-year-old Israeli musician based in New York, plays clarinet and tenor saxophone, and graduated from  Berklee College of Music.

“I wanted to be John Coltrane,” Cohen told the NY Times about her wishes as a child.

Cohen has been the Jazz Journalists Association’s clarinetist of the year for the last six years and plays with several bands, including all-female band Diva Jazz Orchestra.
