Pop icon Ariana Grande paid tribute to the “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show with an emotional performance of “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” Franklin passed away Thursday at age 76 from pancreatic cancer.

Grande also performed her song, “No Tears Left To Cry,” off her brand new album, Sweetener. She recalled meeting Franklin when they both performed at The White House and getting a surprise call from the artist later on discussing music. “I was like, ‘Oh my god, I’d be honored to listen. Thank you for thinking of me. Text me the MP3 or something.’ And she was like, ‘Well, I don’t know how to do that, so I’m gonna send it to you.’ And four months later I got a package with a CD.'”

Before the performance, Grande honored the life of Franklin by posting a photo of the two on her Instagram. While she was doing this, Grande’s fans took to social media to complain about the timing of her death occurring right before the release of Sweetener. Some tweets read, “Damn imagine ariana grande being excited about her album release and the ARETHA FRANKLIN dies…. This hasn’t happened since Princess Diana’s death over shadowing Mother Teresa’s, ” and “Ariana Grande’s (Album) is expected to arrived this midnight. However her sales is under threat since the world of Music’s focus will be on “Aretha Franklin” for days. I advice that She should delay that Album release if she really wants to sell.”

Hopefully, Grande’s fans will come to their senses after the tribute performance. For more information, check out Ariana Grande’s website.
