Spotify Celebrates Women in Music on International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day!

Spotify released a listing of the most listened to women in music in honor of this special day.

According to Billboard:

Most Listened to Females on Spotify Globally: 1. Rihanna // 2. Ariana Grande // 3. Beyoncé // 4. Ellie Goulding // 5. Katy Perry // 6. Lana Del Rey // 7. Sia // 8. Adele // 9. Selena Gomez // 10. Meghan Trainor

Most Listened to Females on Spotify in the U.S.: 1. Beyoncé // 2. Nicki Minaj // 3. Ariana Grande // 4. Rihanna // 5. Lana Del Rey // 6. Katy Perry // 7. Ellie Goulding // 8. Adele // 9. Selena Gomez // 10. Lorde

Both lists are dominated by Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Ariana Grande, and it’s worth noting that Adele made the lists without releasing her newest album, 25, for stream.

Adele, Courtney Barnett, Land in Top 10 for Rolling Stone’s Annual Best Albums List

Rolling Stone released their 50 Best Albums of 2015 list, and Adele’s 25 came in at number two, with Courtney Barnett’s Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit following at number six. 17 of the 50 albums named featured female musicians. Rolling-Stone-LOGO-2-1940x970-1160x580

Other women to make the top 50 cut include albums Emotion by Carley Rae Jepsen; Tomorrow is My Turn by Rihannon Gidden; Rebel Heart by Madonna; Revival by Selena Gomez; Vulnicura by Björk; The Blade by Ashley Monroe; Sound & Color by Alabama Shakes; Painted Shut by Hop Along; Depression Cherry by Beach House, and many more.

Lana Del Rey Debuts New Song in ‘The Age of Adaline’ trailer

Lana Del Rey released a snippet of her new song, “Life is Beautiful” in the trailer for the movie, The Age of Adaline, starring Blake Lively.

This is not the first time Del Rey has contributed to the soundtrack’s of major motion pictures, with songs for The Great Gatsby, Maleficent, and Big Eyes under her belt. The song has not been officially released under the film’s name as of yet, causing speculation that “Life is Beautiful” could be a song off of her new album, which is expected to drop in late 2015.

Watch Lana Del Rey’s Cover of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Chelsea Hotel No. 2’

Rolling Stone recently posted a video of Lana Del Rey’s interpretation of Leonard Cohen’s “Chelsea Hotel No. 2,” a song he wrote about a fling with singer-songwriter Janis Joplin.
