Swedish Electro Pop Artist Tove Styrke finally gets her break in the U.S. as the opening act on Lorde’s Melodrama Tour.  This opportunity comes nearly 9 years after placing 3rd on Swedish Idol (2009) and being signed to Sony Music immediately following. Since then Stryke has released albums Tove Styrke and Kiddo, both reaching chart-topping success in her native country.  The New York Post included her in its list of “10 Artists To Know In 2011.” As if this weren’t exciting enough, she recently announced she will open for Katy Perry in May.

But after seeing Tove Styrke perform last night, this comes as no surprise to me.

I attended Lorde’s concert last night at the Golden 1 Center arena in Sacramento, CA.  It was my first time seeing Lorde in concert, and I was just as eager to see the woman artist opening for her.  Styrke captivated me and a nearly full arena from the first song and all throughout her energetic set. Her vocals are sultry, her music pulse-pounding and precise. I have attended concerts before where the opening act often plays to a nearly empty stadium because concert goers are only interested in the headliner.  But with Styrke this was definitely not the case as I watched thousands of people dancing and clapping along, with majority of the room even singing along! It was one of the best opening performances I have seen in a while.

Right after her set finished, Styrke met with fans out in the main lobby, taking full advantage of the opportunity to connect with us (yes-you better believe I stood in line to meet her!).  She was geniune and kind, taking the time to talk with each person.

Styrke is set to release her 3rd studio album, Sway on May 4 and will be a more mature, intimate sound than what her fans are used to hearing. I am looking forward to it.  I encourage you to catch her live performance.
