The seventh annual She Rocks Awards was held on January 25, 2019, at the House of Blues Anaheim. The event, which is hosted by The Women’s International Music Network (the WiMN), celebrates women in the music and audio industry and their accomplishments. This year’s honorees included Terri Nunn of Berlin, Lisa Loeb, Nita Strauss, Erika Ender and many others.
Some of the evening’s highlights included Nita Strauss covering Queen’s “The Show Must Go On” and singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb performing her song, “Stay,” which was featured on the Reality Bites soundtrack, along with Command Sisters. Celebrating Berlin’s 40th Anniversary, Terri Nunn performed her hit single “Metro” accompanied by Berlin pianist Dave Schulz.
A Hall of Fame award was introduced this year, honoring the late singer Janis Joplin. A speech was given by her sister, Laura Joplin, followed by a medley of the singer’s greatest hits: “Me and Bobby McGee,” “Piece of My Heart,” and “Raise Your Hand,” performed by Orianthi, Vanessa Amorosi, Judith Hill, Emily Armstrong, Sarah Command, Mindi Abair and Rock Sugah.
The WiMN founder Laura B. Whitmore stated, “We were so honored to bring everyone together once again for an uplifting and communal event that celebrates the accomplishments of so many awesome women in the music and audio industry. The evening was made even more special by all the roof-raising performances that got our audience up out of their seats!”
