Just after the release of her second full-length LP, Magic Gone, Petal has shared her cover of the late Tom Petty’s “You Got Lucky,” from Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker’s album Long After Dark. The track is a part of singer-songwriter Kevin Devine’s Devinyl Split Series where Devine makes his own rendition of celebrated songs, usually featuring another artist.

Devine expressed his excitement in collaborating with Petal, “I love Kiley, and her music; she understands that owning your vulnerability is actually the purest form of strength, and the freedom there is threaded through her songwriting and performance. Her cover exemplifies that awareness—there’s something almost confrontational about the directness with which it’s delivered.”

For his half, Devine covers “Into the Great Wide Open,” which will be released with the full EP on September 28. In the last installment of Devinyl Splits, Devine and David Bazan cover “Thread” and “Prehistoric” by female-fronted powerhouse Now Now. For all Devinyl Splits, check out the official Bandcamp.
