Brooklyn based artist Mirah has shared her new song, “Ordinary Day,” which will be on her upcoming sixth studio album, Understanding, out on September 7 on her own label, Absolute Magnitude Recordings. The track premiered on BrooklynVegan where Mirah explained “It’s always strange to write love songs, to fall in love, when the world feels like it’s falling into a dark hole. But we have to. It’s useful actually. Love lifts the world up. It makes it so you can wake up crying, but then look over at the one you love and know that you can face the world, together and separately, and bring beauty and bring peace, not just to each other, but to everyone you meet and every place you go. Love is a strong power.”
Mirah recorded the first demos at The Headlands Center for the Arts, where she spent some time as a resident artist. Upon returning to Brooklyn, Mirah collaborated with Eli Crews and Deerhoof’s Greg Saunier. “Ordinary Day” has been praised by a number of media outlets including Pitchfork describing it as “Subtle yet compelling” and NPR identifiying the song as “a master.”
Along with “Ordinary Day,” Mirah has released two other singles including, “Hot Hot” which was featured on NPR‘s All Songs Considered playlist. Mirah will be touring this fall in support of the new record. For more information, check out her website.
