Here at the Women’s International Music Network, we’re excited to let you know about an exciting event being hosted by our friends at MEOW (Musicians for Equal Opportunities for Women).

The MEOW Day Conference will take place on Saturday, November 10th at the Austin, TX Sound Check location. All are invited to attend!

The conference kicks off with a keynote interview by Laura Taylor, Sr. Vice President of Operations and Musician Services for Guitar Center. Laura will be interviewed by MEOW director/founder, Carla DeSantis Black about GC’s new Women’s Initiative Program.

Laura Taylor has worked her way up the ranks of Guitar Center Corporation from store greeter 23 years ago to one of the most powerful forces in the music business today. In regards to some of the many recent changes that have taken place within her company, Taylor reports “We are doing a lot more clinics in our stores with female artists. We are using more female artist graphics on the inside and outside of our stores. We are actively recruiting and finding better ways to retain female employees in our stores. [And] we are doing a lot of training in our stores with our sales force on how to treat female customers.”

This will be an enlightening interview, and we’re excited to hear about GC’s efforts to bring about a more female driven atmosphere. In addition, two panel discussions, “How Does She Manage?” and “Radio In The Digital Age” will round out this event. The discussions will feature local luminary moderators and panelists such as Dean Lofton (Jeff Lofton manager/publicist/journalist), Killer (Killer Artist Agency), Heather Wagner Reed (Juice Consulting), artist Kacy Crowley, Carla DeSantis Black, Barbara Jo and Kristen Kurtis, both of KGSR and Vanessa Burden of KOOP.

Closing out the day will be performances by MEOW Discoveries Playlist Contest Winner Erin Ivey and Finalists Naga Valli, Karen Chisholm, Brooklyn James, Sue Young, Juliana Murphy and Miranda Rose.
