The new documentary, which will be released in theaters and on demand on September 28th, chronicles Jett’s rocky road to musical stardom and the sometimes ambivalent, sometimes downright aggressive, male-dominated world of rock that tried to keep her out.
To be sure, there were a lot of roadblocks on Jett’s journey. Misogynistic reporters, predatory businessmen, dismissive peers, physical violence – Joan Jett experienced it all. And yet she persevered through it all and emerged as one of the most iconic female figures in music history. This film honors that struggle and transformation, proving that for this particular girl, playing rock and roll was a pretty big deal after all.
