The Women’s International Music Network (The WiMN) announces a partnership with the State University of New York College at Fredonia Music Industry Program to bring the first of its new #SheRocksIt series of workshops and mixers to the New York campus. The event takes place on Saturday, April 13 at 1:00pm at 209 McEwen Hall, SUNY Fredonia, 280 Central Avenue, Fredonia, NY, and is free and open to the public.

Aimed at sharing career insights, music business tips and stories from the road, the WiMN’s #SheRocksIt series focuses on women in the music industry. Participants in the SUNY Fredonia seminar include:

Laura B. Whitmore – Founder of the Women’s International Music Network, producer of the She Rocks Awards and BackStory Events, president of Mad Sun Marketing and singer/songwriter.

Divinity Roxx – Bass player and former music director for Beyoncé, solo recording artist and powerhouse performer and producer.

Ebonie Smith – An award-winning Atlantic Records music producer, singer-songwriter and audio engineer and the founder and chief executive officer of Gender Amplified, Inc., an organization that celebrates and supports women in music production.

Laura Clapp – This singer/songwriter has toured the globe and is working on material for her 4th album. She is also the market development specialist for Shure microphones.

The WiMN’s #SheRocksIt series is a new initiative to share the careers of women in the music industry. “Students don’t always know about the female role models out there in the world already doing amazing things,” notes Whitmore. “Our goal is to share highlights and insights through live events, a new section on our website and through our social media.” Whitmore adds, “ Men are welcome, too! It helps everyone to hear the challenges women face and be part of the dialog as we work to create an atmosphere of respect within the industry.”

Armand Petri, multi-platinum record producer and head of the SUNY Fredonia Music Industry program, adds, “Our program, like the music industry itself, has seen a growing amount of female participation over the last several years, to the point where the previously predominantly male Music Business major is now 50% women. This seminar is an important step in raising awareness for our students, both male and female, about the issues arising as women take their rightful place in both the creative and business aspects of the music industry.”

Other #SheRocksIt events include seminars / mixers on May 2 in Los Angeles, CA and July 16 in Nashville, TN. Find out more at theWiMN.com
