Underground Egyptian-based metal band Massive Scar Era is making headlines.

We told you about their feature story in The New Yorker. Now, the latest outlet to write about them is Rolling Stone Middle East.

Band founder Sherine Amr tells the magazine they’ve banned metal in Egypt, forcing the band to stop playing gigs.

“You can’t,” Amr told Rolling Stone Middle East. “They banned metal. We used to do small, underground gigs, but we stopped. The minute the police find out, they come and ask for papers and everything… It’s too much hassle. It’s really bad, you know? This is where I grew up. And we can’t play here.”

Amr also told the magazine about her desires to come to the United States.

“We want to go to the States,” said Amr. “We’d have better opportunities. And to be honest, I don’t like living in Egypt much. It’s a very judgmental society.”
