Luckily for this mom, her baby stops crying and enters a state of bliss upon listening to Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse.”

MTV recently interviewed Case Western Reserve University associate professor of music education Lisa Huisman Koops to discuss why babies can be soothed by certain types of music.

The biggest takeaways from the interview are that studies show that babies are especially comforted by songs they heard while they were in their mother’s womb. Other studies have shown that heavy bass may remind babies of utero sounds, like their mother’s heartbeat. The short answer is: it really depends!
