The late iconic Cuban-American singer Celia Cruz will be celebrated at the first-ever Latin American Music Awards through a musical tribute featuring a talented group of performers honoring her legacy on the Oct. 8 telecast via Telemundo, airing from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

According to Billboard magazine, Colombian artist Maluma, salsa artist India, Mexican singer Yuri and singer/actress Aymée Nuviola (who portrays Cruz in the new Telemundo series Celia), will sing a medley of her most recognized material.

 

Due to premiere on Oct. 13, Celia documents the singer’s trajectory from a timid adolescent in Havana, Cuba, to an iconic figure that left her mark on the world. During her career, Cruz faced racism, sexism and broke all barriers of what a black female musician could achieve in the 1950s.
